“Location, Location, Location” – What is Your Business’ Digital Location?
August 7, 2013
Digital Real Estate
The old business adage, “Location, Location, Location” has not changed. In fact, it’s more important now then ever before. However, the meaning of “Location” has changed from a physical location to a digital location. Today, it’s essential for a business to have a strong digital location on search engines for its top keywords. Search engine visibility is the key to success. If you own better digital real estate over your competitors on all your top search terms your business will grow and you will capture the most market share (assuming you have a good click-through-rate and a good conversion rate – read this article).
The Digital Shift
The world’s largest advertiser, Procter & Gamble, has announced this year they plan to devote around 65% of their marketing budget toward digital marketing. Not television, or radio, or print or other… but digital! That number is expected to rise over the coming years. Clearly, they understand the importance of digital location and more and more businesses are following along.
What Are You Paying For Rent?
Seriously, what are you paying for rent? Are you spending more on rent for your physical location/building than you are on digital marketing? If so, you have it all wrong! You should be spending more on renting the best digital locations! We work with all kinds of different small businesses and you’d be surprised how many will spend over $5000 per month on rent for their physical location and only $500 per month on their digital location. This is craziness. So much more traffic is available online than near your physical location. If you do not have a physical location this is all the more reason to invest more into your digital location. Every time a potential customer searches for you online and you’re not there, you LOSE sales!
Invest In Your Digital Location First
Stop looking at renting the top spot on Google as an expense and start looking at it as an investment. I guarantee, the cost of not being there is a lot higher when you add up all the sales you’re losing. Bill Gates once said, “If you have $10,000 to start a business, spend $9000 on marketing”, and that is so true. In fact, 50% of businesses fail in the first year and 80% fail in the first two years with the number one reason being their lack of marketing knowledge and marketing budget. Bottom line is this, if you want to be a true competitor today you must invest in your digital location on search and maximize your search engine visibility.
What is the Best Digital Location?
When it comes to digital location you want to be visible everywhere possible online when somebody is searching for your types of products and services. The most popular search engine is Google, followed by Bing. Ideally, you want to be at the top of the page both in the paid listings (at the very top) and the organic listings (main part of the page). Make sure you’re listed on both mobile and desktop devices. On mobile it’s especially important to be on top because there’s limited screen space. As far as gaining top placement in paid listings goes, Top Placement Ads™ is the best system around. For a strong location in organic placement Natural Listing Ads™ is a great system. Both systems take time to work effectively, but if given time and enough of an investment the systems reap massive rewards and your digital location will be amazing.
Remember, every time somebody searches for your types of products and services and you’re not on top, you’re losing sales. Do whatever it takes to insure you have the best digital location possible for your top keywords. Put your business where the traffic is and the sales will shortly follow.
