How Social Media Engagement Impacts Revenue

Social media management has become an important tool for establishing relationships between businesses and customers. This article will present some case studies from the businesses that built their success from social media. To put it in a fun and simple way, I would say “from zero to hero just over a night by using social media.”
Understand your business
Before we go into details, we need to understand that not all businesses will put all of their focus on social media as a way to increase their profits. If your business is an e-commerce business or uses e-commerce as a major sort to make revenue, having lots of customer engagement, such as likes, shares, and comments on your posts, hashtags or check-ins at your business on their posts. people joining your business online campaigns and becoming your brand’s ambassador, will help you reach your goal.
Understand your Target Audience
One more factor that needs to be considered. If you use social media as a tool to get more sales for your products, your business target audiences should mostly be Gen Z and Millennials who prefer online shopping over in-store shopping — the same people who spend more than 4 hours every day on social media and use their phone 24/7
Social media engagement case studies
Enough with all the theories; time for real practices. Let’s see how other people do it and maybe you can do it better!
Michelle Phan
Did Michelle plan to open her cosmetic brand or own a business from the beginning, when she first started her Youtube channel in 2007? NO. But her success is a good example to show what we can do with social media.
She started by creating great make-up tutorials content on Youtube. Most of her videos became viral and brought over a million subscribers to her channel. In 2010, she got the offer to work with Lancôme after she featured some of their products. She became the Ipsy co-founder in 2012, and then bought EM Cosmetics from L’Oreal in 2015.
What can we learn from this?
Michelle Phan portrays herself as a strong, confident woman and connects with her followers in a very friendly, casual way. She’s inspired lots of people with her life story and her talents. By giving them great social media content and getting great engagement with viewers, her followers made her who she is today.
Revolve
In 2003, two young tech co-workers named Michael, who knew absolutely nothing about fashion, started their e-retail business — Revolve Group — using 3,500 Instagram influencers as a marketing strategy. Now, their business is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce clothing companies in the nation. It was valued at nearly $1.5 billion when it recently went public and is headed to more than $600 million in sales in 2019.
What do we learn from this?
“REVOLVE is the next-generation fashion retailer for Millennial and Generation Z consumers.” They were very clear from the beginning about their target customers! They were also certain about using bloggers and influencers as a marketing tool when no business at that time (2003) could think that tool will make any benefits for a company, even though we all heard about worth-of-mouth marketing. The influencers became the marketing team doing all the interaction and engagement with the customers, simply giving the customer good reviews about the products, showing how they would look like and how they might feel when they’re wearing the products.
Every successful small business marketing strategy starts with a strong brand. Social media is the perfect place to build one.
