Apple Watch Reviews Signal Slow Product Adoption Rates
Brian Tong of CNET gives a concise review which concludes that having an Apple Watch around your wrist may not be worth it.
Brian’s review:
This review hardly bodes well for product adoption heading to majority use with the Apple Watch.
Unfortunately, the thing he liked the most about the watch was it’s looks. Enthusiasm for style is something to look for with early adopters, but is not the feature you want touted by innovators. In a list of 5 things to like, he could only come up with four, none of which seem indicative of behaviors that will influence a majority.
The review gets worse for Apple, with two major features, pinging updates and health apps, being disparaged by Brian. Most reviews of the Apple Watch pan the updates, which are seen as obtrusive. Users must cull the updates they get on their watch, lest they find it buzzing on their wrist incessantly.
Brain’s take on the health apps don’t indicate much appeal for the current target audience: fitness conscious people who want data on their health and activity levels. He seemed to think it would be better for sedentary people who need regular reminders to be active. Apple may want to change their advertising from using a marathon runner to an overweight computer programmer who tends to spend hours at a time sitting.
Brian’s review is a first-hand account from a innovator who tested the product long enough to make conclusions about it’s features and usefulness.
Again, a strong indicator that this product that will catch the attention of majority users is not apparent. Perhaps when they iron-out some of the problems with the apps Brian mentions they may find broader appeal.
For now, it hardly seems people who have phones will be compelled to buy a smart watch. Apple, Samsung, and other mobile device companies are behind in the count with product adoption cycle.
