Don’t Forget These Important Elements for Your Business’s Social Media Profiles

Social media management can be a powerful small business marketing tool. And, the success of your social media strategy starts with building a great profile for your business.
If you’re interested in creating social media accounts for your business, or are looking for ways to improve current profiles, make sure you include these important elements!
Usernames
Whenever possible, keep your usernames the same across all of your accounts. When this isn’t possible, make usernames that explain what your company is.
For example, Larry owns a hardware store in Fort Collins, Colorado, called “Larry’s Hardware Store.” A few usernames that would make sense for Larry’s business include @LarrysHardwareFortCollins, @LarrysHardware or @LarrysHardwareFC.
Display names
While your display name and your username might sound like the same thing, they are different.
Usernames begin with “@” and often can’t be changed after creation. The display name on your profile is usually listed above your username, and usually can be changed.
You can make your display name the same as your username, or something else that makes more sense.
Profile picture
If you have a logo, this is the perfect place to use it! If you are in the process of making a new logo, or would prefer to use something else, we suggest using an image that directly relates back to your company.
Cover images and background
Some social media platforms (Facebook is a great example) have their users select an image for their background or cover image.
Using a picture of your storefront or of your company’s name is a great way to go!
Bios, intros and about sections
Depending on the platform, you will also have a bio, an intro or an about section to fill out. These are amazing tools that many businesses don’t use.
Some great things you can put in this section include the address of your business, the state or country your business works out of, a sentence or two about your business, or maybe how long your business has been around!
Privacy settings
One of the most important (and easiest things to forget) is to make sure your accounts are able to be viewed by the public.
This is an easy thing to check and fix. Head to your settings and make sure your accounts are set to ‘public,’ and you’re good to go!
