Having a Website is Not Enough! #smallbusinesswebsites
As a business owner, you might already know that it is not enough for potential clients and customers just to be able to find you on the web. When someone clicks on your site, it is just one step in the process — you also need engaging designs and calls to action to grab attention and encourage people to click around, as well as a mobile friendly site.
It used to be that when you designed a site, you had one main goal: the end result had to have the same look and feel, no matter which browser was used. Smartphones and tablets have changed all of that. Now, you not only have to create a dynamic site that works with multiple browsers, but it also has to be mobile friendly.
To create a site of this caliber, it not only has to look great from a computer, but it also has to be representative of your business on a mobile device. As of January 2015, according to Global Web Index, 80% of people smartphone users use their phone to search the internet, and 47% of tablet users use their tablet to search.
Your small business website has to translate well to a mobile device, because that is how most people search. Driving traffic to your site is the easy part, creating a site that A) represents your business in the best way possible, B) makes a good impression and C) is accessible to mobile users — that is where the real challenge begins.
The idea behind responsive website design is to improve user experience, no matter what device is being used to access your site. Creating a site with a responsive design can be a real challenge. Luckily, there are some clear-cut guidelines available that can make the process much easier. Your website must use text that doesn’t require zooming to be read, it has to have links spaced far enough away from one another that they are easy to click and it can’t contain any software, like Flash, that can’t be utilized on mobile devices.
In addition, the design still has to look great and your menu and calls to action need to translate to mobile users. A click to call phone number can increase the leads your site generates. A well-designed responsive site works for you.
Don’t just be visible, make sure that your business website is visible on all platforms!
